Recreational competitors are being offered the chance to win one million Australian dollars when they compete against tennis' top professionals - headed by leading player the Spanish champion - in a one-point battle prior to the Australian Grand Slam

Tournament officials of the Melbourne major have revealed the Seven-Figure Quick-Fire Competition, which will pair everyday competitors against top-ranked players in a knockout tournament at the Australian Open venue

This Innovative Competition Operates

Players will play 'rock, paper, scissors' to decide who gets to serve or return, and the competitor securing the point will move forward to the following stage

The champion of the event will earn a significant cash prize

By comparison, players who reached the semi-finals of the main draw competitions in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

Earlier Comparable Tournaments

The New York major staged a restructured, standalone combined gender tournament in late summer which motivated top singles players to take part, with the champions receiving a million-dollar prize

The Melbourne tournament held its debut single-point competition this year, but the total purse was sixty thousand Australian dollars and it generated little publicity

The Russian player was the only top-10 player participating, and his progress finished when he put the one and only serve allowed failing to clear the net in his penultimate round

Competition Specifics

Officials have not said exactly how the event will operate, but it is anticipated to follow a comparable structure to this year's edition

The top competitors will be granted to have a single serve and the everyday players on two occasions - as is the norm in conventional tennis

While it is not certain how the bracket will work, there will be five knockout rounds and the site will be the Rod Laver Arena rather than the smaller Kia Arena

The last matches will take place in a night session instead of early afternoon

Competitor Requirements

Local players - or overseas competitors who have enrolled with Tennis Australia - can participate in 'single-point competition' tournaments at their community centers

The champions of the grassroots tournaments will then go into a draw, with an everyday competitor from every region and area selected to participate in the 'grand finale' in a nighttime event on mid-January

There will also be a qualifying draw in December which amateurs, lower ranked pros, celebrities and athletic celebrities can participate in

It begins on the starting date and the two winners will advance to the following day's 'final showdown' with the other eight amateurs and top-ranked athletes

"No matter your experience, the ultimate winner will walk away with the reward. Entries will begin shortly at facilities throughout the nation"

Tournament officials mentioned there were "additional stars to be revealed shortly", while the event portal mentioned "celebrities" would be participating
