LA Explodes in Celebration as Dodgers Secure Second World Series Championship
Los Angeles experienced widespread festivities after the Dodgers won a thrilling seven-game World Series title. Supporters across the globe joined Angelenos in jubilation, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a franchise has achieved back-to-back championships.
Celebration Parade Attracts Massive Crowds
Local celebrations included a procession through the city center on Monday morning, a reserved-seating event at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings across the city.
Online footage show countless of Los Angeles residents packing city center avenues, many displaying homemade signs and Dodger flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the masses, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“My focus is already about the third time we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at the stadium, where the players walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and Ice Cube cruising a Pacific blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Player Reactions
Festivities started prior to the parade, with Dodgers fans setting off fireworks in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
The World Series MVP, named the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke plainly about the win.
“We refuse to lose,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
In contrast, Mark Walter received a less warm welcome at the celebration. Video footage from the event seem to depict Walter walking onstage to a mix of applause and jeers, with jeers interrupting his address.
The championship acted as a positive moment in what has been a challenging year for the city. An approximate quarter-million people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, fans this year showed equal or greater support.
“I feel like it’s nearly twice from last year,” he remarked. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a involved in this.”
