Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler increased England's injury problems after leaving the playing area on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left leg post-delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

Team management indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time away from the action for further assessment "during the day".

The final Test of the series at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have been without key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was dropped from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 as a batsman as one of just three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he returned for the second day's play and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

However, at the end of that over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

The English bowler was recalled for the Boxing Day Test having missed of the third.
