The Details Known Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Shooting
At least 16 individuals lost their lives and in excess of 40 were hurt when attackers fired on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a terrorist attack.
As of the newest reports, authorities have stated the number of fatalities is 16, encompassing one of the alleged gunmen. Additionally, 42 wounded individuals were transported to hospital.
The victims are yet to be officially identified, but police believe their ages range from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Reportedly a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.
She told the events leading up to the shooting, stating they were standing when the gunfire started. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.
The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
In a statement, a senior official expressed that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, according to police reports.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was a fatality during the attack, according to reports referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospital, many are still under care, with several in a critical state. The injured include two police officers who responded to the attack.
One of the injured is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Hailed as a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. It has been reported he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he recounted the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also noted the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the attack. He said he heard “a large number” of shots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I was hit. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
