It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
