The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor to Germany's league body.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the idea that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage another team within the country. Which implies should it be the Reds...yes. It's plausible.”

“Being 58, so the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about which situations must arise to bring him back to the touchline, he confessed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he said. “No longing for management; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the team having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”

Praise for His Successor

He commended of the current boss, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal a slump.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”

Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward

Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.

“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. It was an incredible shock for his teammates also. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
