The President Invites Families of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to White House

President Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.

He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.

White House Invitation

The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump told journalists. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Reaction

Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.

Both they had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in Washington DC.

Remembering Beckstrom

“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the media. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to help others.”

Service details for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Actions and Government Changes

Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event led the government to pause asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

The airman, a resident of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with the family.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
