The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
