The Renowned Musician Urges Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of performers contributing to Lullaby features a group of acclaimed names from the industry. All participated in the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of talented individuals. The song blends a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have stated that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These donations will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for whatever we can get. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the region was noted for its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a couple of million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is primarily raising awareness for this issue and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
