Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, our country," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, making him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that situation other than him with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it hurts" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance this season.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of this game," he added.
Toronto secured the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
