Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
